Privacy Policy
Last updated 14 October 2026
The short version
- We collect what Oblongato needs to work: your account details and the tasks, projects and photos you add, so they sync and stay safe.
- No ads, no tracking, and we never sell your data.
- Your calendar events are read on your iPhone and never uploaded.
- You can export your data or delete your account at any time, from inside the app.
Who we are
Oblongato is an iPhone app made by Jeremy Pau, based in the United Kingdom. In this policy, "Oblongato", "we" and "us" mean Jeremy, who is responsible for your information (the "controller" under UK data protection law).
If you have any question about your privacy, email support@oblongato.com.
What we collect
Your account
- Your email address and the name you choose.
- How you sign in (email, Apple or Google) and a user ID that links your data to your account. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only receive Apple's private relay address.
What you put in Oblongato
- Your tasks, projects, sections, notes, checklists, labels, dates, reminders and repeats.
- Places you add to tasks (the name and address text you choose).
- Photos you add as project covers.
- Your progress in the app, such as streaks, achievements and completed tasks.
This is stored on our servers so it can sync between your devices and be restored if you sign in again.
Friends
If you use Friends, we store your friend connections, the tasks you share with each other, nudges and replies, and any blocks or reports. Friends you connect with can see your name, the titles of tasks you share with them, and the nudges and replies you send them.
Usage and technical information
- How many times you've used the AI features and sent nudges, so we can apply fair-use limits.
- A push notification token for your device, so we can tell you about nudges and shared tasks.
- Your IP address, used briefly to protect sign-up and sign-in from abuse.
We don't use advertising identifiers, analytics trackers or third-party advertising, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
Information that stays on your iPhone
- Calendar: if you connect Apple Calendar, Oblongato reads your events on your device to show them in the Diary. Your events are not sent to our servers.
- Settings and preferences are kept on your device.
Features that use other services
AI features
When you ask Oblo to turn your typing or a photo of a list into tasks, or when Oblo writes your weekly summary, the relevant text or photo (and, for the weekly summary, the titles of that week's tasks and your progress numbers) is sent to Anthropic, which provides the AI model. Anthropic processes it to return a result and does not use it to train its models. Photos of lists are used only for that request and are not kept by us.
Weather
To show the weather, Oblongato looks up the place it's showing (the city you choose, or the city of your time zone) and requests a forecast from Apple Weather. If a future version lets you use your current location for weather, it will ask for your permission first, use only your approximate location, and send it to Apple only to fetch the forecast.
Maps
When you add a place to a task, the text you type is sent to Apple Maps to find it.
Why we use your information
- To provide Oblongato (performing our agreement with you): your account, syncing, reminders, Friends, AI features and weather.
- To keep Oblongato safe and working (our legitimate interests): preventing abuse, enforcing fair-use limits, handling reports and fixing problems.
- To meet legal obligations, where the law requires it.
Who we share it with
We only share your information with service providers that help us run Oblongato, under contracts that require them to protect it:
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosting our database, sign-in, file storage and server functions |
| Anthropic | The AI model behind Oblo's AI features |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, push notifications, weather and maps |
| Sign in with Google, if you choose it | |
| Cloudflare | Hosting this website and our email |
We don't sell your information or share it for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people using Oblongato.
International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside the UK, for example in the United States or the European Union. Where they do, we rely on safeguards recognised by UK law, such as adequacy decisions or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
How long we keep it
- We keep your account and content for as long as you have an account.
- When you delete your account, we delete your account and everything in it from our servers, including your tasks, projects, photos and friend connections. Copies may remain in encrypted backups for a short time before they're overwritten.
- If someone reports another person, we keep the report so we can act on it and keep Oblongato safe. If the person who made a report deletes their account, the report stays but no longer identifies them.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access your information and get a copy of it (you can export your data from Oblongato's Account settings);
- correct information that's wrong;
- delete your information (you can delete your account from Oblongato's Account settings);
- object to or restrict how we use it in some situations;
- move your information to another service.
To use any of these rights, use the options in the app or email support@oblongato.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Children
Oblongato isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
Your information is sent over encrypted connections and stored with access controls, so only you, and friends you choose to share with, can see your content. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you, as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
